“Harry!” Ginny Weasley squealed the minute Harry was through the door of the Weasley's sitting room.
She bounded towards him and had wrapped him in a bear hug before he could blink; making an uncomfortable knot form in his stomach.
“It's so good to see you! How have you been?” Ginny asked, finally letting go of him.
Harry gave her what he hoped was a friendly smile.
“I'm fine Gin, no lasting effects so far,” he said.
“That's good,” Ginny said before spotting Hermione behind Harry. “Hello Hermione.”
Harry did not miss the cool tone of Ginny's voice as she greeted Hermione. He sighed mentally. This was not going to be pleasant.
“Hello, Ginny,” Hermione responded, not letting the other girl's slightly cold reception get to her.
“Hey Mate,” Ron said, coming over to them from he had been sitting playing wizard's chess with Luna.
“Hey, Ron,” Harry said, slapping Ron on the back.
“Hello Harry, Hermione,” Luna Lovegood greeted them dreamily. “I do hope you're doing well. And staying away from those Bohemian Gooflies. They like cold weather like this so they can infest your house and eat all your cheese.”
“I'll be sure to watch out for them,” Harry said, not bothering to ask exactly what these creatures were.
“Say, Harry do you want to go upstairs and talk?” Ginny asked, wrapping her arms around Harry's arm possessively.
Out of the corner of his eye, Harry could see Hermione bristle and quickly untangled himself from Ginny's grasp.
“Not right now, Gin, Hermione and I need to talk to Ron first. Maybe later?” Harry said, looking over at Ron.
“Sure, Harry,” Ginny said, sounding put out that he did not want to spend time alone with her first.
“I promise we can talk later, Gin,” Harry told her, thinking it might be a good idea to tell the youngest Weasley in private also about him and Hermione.
“Sure, Harry,” Ginny said, sounding pouty and disappointed.
Giving her a little nod, Harry turned and followed Ron and Hermione upstairs, his heart hammering in his chest with each step.
When they reached the top of the stairs and the long hallway that led to Ron's room, Harry took a deep breath to steady himself before entering the room.
Once the door was closed, Harry turned to his friend and girlfriend. Hermione was sitting on a comfortable, if a bit tattered looking, armchair by the room's only window. Ron meanwhile was sitting on his bed, looking expectantly at his friends.
That is new, Harry thought absently of the chair, trying to quell the sudden nausea that had risen in his stomach.
“So, what did you guys want to talk about?” Ron asked, his eyes moving from Harry who was standing by the door still, to Hermione in her chair.
“Well, the thing is…” Harry started.
“We wanted to tell you before we told everyone else,” Hermione finished for him. Harry shot her a grateful smile before continuing.
“We want to you to know that we only kept this a secret because of the war. Now that it is over, we feel it is time to tell everyone,” Harry began, swallowing hard around the growing lump in his throat.
“What Harry's trying to say is, we've been together since just before we found the last horcrux. About a year now,” Hermione finished for Harry again.
Dead silence met her words, and then, Harry saw the first signs of danger. Ron's ears slowly started to color, going from pale to stained pale pink, and finally moving to angry red.
“WHAT?” he roared, seeming to almost grow and fill the room in his anger.
“Ron, we-“ Hermione started, but Ron cut her off.
“I don't want to hear your bloody excuses Hermione! You lied to me then. After I asked you, out. You lied to me about there not being another guy. You lied when I asked you if you had feelings for Harry! YOU BOTH LIED TO ME!”
“We had…” Harry began, but Ron cut him off as well.
“…to keep it a secret because of the bloody war! Well you could have told ME! I would not have told anyone. Especially not, V-V-V-Voldemort!” Ron shouted.
By now, Harry and Hermione were certain everyone downstairs could hear them. This was not going how they hoped.
“Ron, please, let us…” Harry tried again, but Ron would have none of it.
“No, I don't want to hear your excuses anymore. You two obviously do not trust me. Therefore, I guess that means I am not trustworthy. Thanks a lot!” And with that, Ron stomped over to the door, shoving Harry out of the way, wrenched the door open and stormed out of the room, slamming the door shut violently.
Harry and Hermione were still, too shocked to react right away. And then Hermione started to sob quietly, tears leaking down her face and onto her shirt.
“H-h-he hates us, doesn't he?” she asked miserably as Harry came over and wrapped his arms around her tightly.
“I don't know, Hermione I don't know. I hope not. I'm hoping that he'll cool off and be okay,” Harry said, rubbing her back in small circles.
Hermione said nothing, continuing to sob into Harry's shoulder. Silently Harry hoped he was right, that Ron would cool off and be more level headed after. But he was not going to get his hopes up.
