AN: Here it is! The last chapter! I hope you all like it. It is not the best I do not think, but then again I always say that about the stuff I write. Anyway, please read and review!
***
Something was hitting her in the head. Something warm and soft. It felt like a hand. But that was not right, it was not hitting her, it was patting her.
But then that would mean…
Hermione sat bolted upright, her eyes wide and staring. The hand that had been running itself through her hand fell back on the bed with a soft thump.
It was a few minutes before Hermione's eyes and brain registered what they were seeing. And when they did, she was not sure if what she was seeing was real. She was not sure if it was just a dream.
But oh, how she hoped and wished that it were not a dream. That it was real. If it was a dream, she was not sure if she could handle it.
There, staring back at her, looking slightly worse for wear was Harry. His bright green eyes, open and looking back at her. A small, tired smile crinkling the corners of his eyes.
For several minutes, Hermione and Harry just stared at each other, both unable to put into words the thousands of thoughts racing through their minds.
Finally, Hermione broke the silence whispering quietly, “Harry? Are you really awake?”
Harry tried to laugh but started coughing instead. “Oh, Harry! Here, drink this,” Hermione said, quickly handing him a glass of cold water.
Harry took it gratefully and took a slow sip. After swallowing a couple of mouthfuls, Harry spoke for the first time in three weeks.
“Yeah, I'm awake. How…how long have I been out?” he asked, his voice slightly raspy from having not used it for so long.
“Three weeks,” Hermione answered, tears starting to well in her eyes as the reality that Harry really was awake started to settle on her.
Noticing her tears, Harry raised his hand to her face, gently swiping them away with his thumb.
“Don't cry love, you know I hate it when you cry. I'm alright now, I promise,” he said, giving her what he hoped was a reassuring smile.
Before she could reply, the door to Harry's room opened, admitting several Healers. When they saw that Harry was indeed awake, they looked stunned for a few seconds before quickly making their way over to him, beginning to exam him.
The charms around Harry's bed must have alerted them that he was awake, Hermione thought standing to allow them room to work.
The Healers all crowded around Harry's bed, each performing a series of complicated diagnostic spells, studying their results carefully. As they worked, they periodically asked Harry questions to check his mental status.
When they were done, they all looked amazed.
“Mister, Potter, how in the world did you manage to throw off such a powerful curse?” the Healer in charge asked, sounding mystified.
“I don't know,” Harry, answered, not knowing that he had done something that was all but impossible.
“Well, however you did it Mister Potter, you are the only one who has ever been able to throw off something as powerful and complicated as that curse was,” the Healer told him.
It was now Harry's turn to look stunned. “I-I-I am?” he asked sounding slightly disbelieving.
The Healer nodded, adding, “You are quiet extraordinary and lucky, Mister Potter.” This left Harry looking slightly less than pleased.
After making sure, he was all right, the Healers left, leaving Harry and Hermione alone once more.
When it seemed neither of them was going to start talking, Hermione decided to break the silence.
“How are you feeling, Harry?” she asked, sitting back down in her chair.
“Very tired, but otherwise, I feel pretty good. What happened? The last thing I remember is firing off that spell we found in the library at Sirius' and then nothing.”
“Y-y-you got hit with an extremely powerful curse that basically was slowly killing you. The Healers had no idea what the curse was, though they suspect it was a variation on a few different, harmless spells.
“You were…d-d-dying. They couldn't do anything to stop it without killing you.” At this point Hermione began to cry in earnest. The tears spilling over her cheeks in a flood. They were tears of joy, as well as tears of pain and fear.
Harry pulled her close and hugged her as tightly as he could, rubbing her back in small, slow circles, and whispering words of comfort in her ear.
“I-I-I was so scared I was going to lose you. Be-be-before you ever go the chance t-t-to know, th-that you are going to be a f-f-father.”
Harry pulled away then, his movements stilled, and for one horrible moment, Hermione thought he was going to tell her that there was no way he could be a father now.
“Y-Y-You mean that wasn't a dream?” he asked quietly, hope shining in his eyes.
“No, it wasn't a dream. You're really going to be a father.”
If he could have jumped around, swinging Hermione in his arms, Harry would have. Instead, he just pulled her close again and laughed.
“I'm going to be a father! I'm going to be a father!”
Hermione could not help it; she started laughing too, mostly out of relief.
The sound of the door opening caused them to break apart and look up. The smile that spread across Harry's face at the sight of the red haired family that came in lifted Hermione's heart.
She knew now, without a doubt that Harry would be okay. That the curse, though powerful and potentially deadly, had left no lingering side effects. Once again proving just how special and extraordinary Harry was. Though of course, Hermione already knew that.
Turning to the Weasley's she smiled and hugged everyone and when she saw how happy and alive Harry was, she silently thanked every deity she knew of that Harry had finally opened his eyes.
