Short little fic that I wrote while without my laptop. Just got around to editing it and such. And looking for the lyrics to the song used within. That song is "Won't Let You Down" by Keith Urban. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Oh and I know the song is supposed to be a sort of romantic song, but I couldn't get the picture of a father singing it to his daughter out of my head.

A Song for Emily

His voice was quiet so he wouldn't wake his sleeping wife in the bed next to him.

She was exhausted after giving birth to a tiny infant only hour earlier. And in his opinion, Harry thought quite rightly that she deserved all the sleep and rest she could get.

The last few months of the pregnancy had been rough. After a series of false labors, Hermione had been on bed rest for the last 3 months of the pregnancy.

She had not taken to that well. And most nights she didn't sleep because of the baby's constant movement. Each one causing her to hold her breath, hoping it wasn't another false alarm.

But now she was here. The life that had been created through the expression of their love. It made Harry want to do cartwheels.

Smiling, he focused his attention back on the tiny newborn in his arms, wrapped snuggly in her blankets.

Continuing to keep his voice low, he began to sing quietly to her. Reciting a song, he had heard on the muggle radio one night while sitting up with Hermione.

Emily squirmed slightly as he sang, getting comfortable in her warm cocoon. She opened her eyes briefly, giving Harry a glimpse of blue before going back to sleep.

Harry smiled as Emily snuggled into him, feeling a sense of joy and pride swelling inside him. He couldn't remember ever being this happy.

As he finished the song, Harry looked up to see Hermione awake, tears silently leaking down her cheeks. Harry felt his heart lurch at the sight. "You okay Hermione?" he asked quietly, wanting nothing more than to wrap his arms around her and sweep her tears away.

Wiping at her eyes with a tissue, Hermione managed a tired, watery smile.

"I'm fine, Harry. Just...seeing...you...hearing you...sing like that...to our daughter, it was so beautiful."

"You're beautiful," Harry whispered, reaching to squeeze her hand. "And so is Emily."

Hermione smiled and dapped at her eyes again, trying to stem the flow of her tears.

"Here, love, you're leaking," Harry chuckled softly, handing Hermione a tissue.

"Thanks," she said, wiping her eyes.

"Welcome."

The couple stayed quiet after that, contentedly watching the newest addition to their family. And looking forward to a bright future together, just them and their little Emily.
