Okay so I have this posted on the forums and on my LJ but someone asked me to post it here so here you are…enjoy. There was some stuff added and taken away and I think it's pretty much error-free because I fixed most of it when I was editing it.

It was raining again, the heavy drops beating their irregular rhythm into the window panes of the cozy houses on the very edge of a small town named Godric's Hollow. The insistent pouring of rain for the last few hours had made the town look quite dreary indeed, the air weighty with choked mist and the windows of all the houses blurred from the smearing water, blocking any nosy person from seeing inside of the comfortable, yet very wet houses.
In one such house, a woman of barely twenty-one sat, curled up on a couch, and awaited her husband to return with anxiety. She kept a nervous hand resting low on her stomach, her forehead creasing every now and then, as she glanced around the curious splattered and shifting shadows that flitted lazily across the spacious room.
A well-worn book sat abandoned on the nearby table, coffee marked pages left open carelessly as though the reader had rushed off in the middle of reading. A now cold cup of coffee sat nearby, a ring of condensation circling it at the bottom that was in danger of spreading far enough to reach the edge of the book's frayed pages.
The woman's soft green eyes rested briefly on the picture of the mug and book sitting and looking lonely on the table, and a small smile threatened to tug at her lips at it. The smile shook as it took its place, as if wondering to be whimsical or melancholy. Whimsical won out, as the woman uncurled her legs from under her and crossed the room to go to the table.
Her long, slim fingers gently traced the crease in the middle of the book, before she closed it carefully and pushed it to the other side of the table. She then took up the mug and carried it into the next room, setting it by the kitchen's sink, which was building up with dishes as of late.
She leaned against the counter in the roomy kitchen with a sigh, her hand going back to rubbing her stomach thoughtfully.
“How am I going to tell him?” she whispered to herself, her head thrown back to lean against the high cabinet that hung above the white counters that were littered with wrappers or crumbs from the last few days. “Good God, how am I going to tell him?” Her voice was slightly louder this time and cracked as she spoke to herself, with her free hand going upwards to run distressingly through her thick auburn curls.
“Tell me what?” A deep, curious voice asked. The woman's head darted upwards to stare at the tall, dark-haired man who was standing in the kitchen and also happened to be dripping wet from the tireless rain that was still pounding down onto the streets outside.
“James!” she exclaimed, shocked at her not hearing him come in. But before she could comment on this, her eyes took in his drenched clothes and her brow furrowed in worry again, “why are you so wet?”
“Had to go outside a bit to do something for Dumbledore and didn't have time to do any drying spells and by the time I finished all I could think of was getting back to you,” he replied softly, with a sheepish grin adorning his face. He closed the space in between them and cupped her face gently with his cold hand. She shivered slightly from both his touch and the cold from his hand. “Lily…what's wrong?” he whispered, his voice dropping an octave until it was almost a growl to her ears. His thumb gently brushed across her face, hand warming quickly against her skin, he moved his fingers into her hair, playing with the red strands with an easy familiarity of someone who had done the same action many times before.
“We need to talk, I have something to tell you,” She finally answered him after a moment, lifting her eyes to meet his chocolate brown ones for the first time since he had arrived. “But let's go upstairs first, it's cold down here, and you should change before you catch a cold.”
He watched her for another moment before giving her a small grin and pulling slightly away from her, grabbing onto her hand and leading her gently out of the kitchen. They climbed the stairs in silence, Lily holding onto James' hand tightly, fingers interweaving with his. Her eyes traveled down to their hands as they reached the top of the stairs, a little smile curling at her lips as she examined the matching bands on their fingers lovingly, as usual awed that she had found a man such as James who was willing to do so much for her. Even marry her and put up with her every night, just because he loved her. And she loved him for all of that and more, her feelings going farther than she even dared to think about sometimes for the man that was holding her hand and leading her with an understanding silence towards their bedroom.
He opened the door, finally let go of her hand, and let her go in before him. Closing the door after they had both gone in, before either of them could say anything he started to take off his shirt, stripping himself of his wet clothing and scrambling to find decent replacements for them. He finally settled on a pair of old boxers and a worn out shirt that had once sported the logo of Appleby Arrows in it, but was now so faded it could barely be made out.
Lily has sat down on the bed, already in her normal nightwear and pulled the covers down, tucking her feet under them and willing them to warm. She shivered and wrapped her arms around her knees, her eyes following James' movements around their bedroom until her came to sit beside her on the bed.
“So? What's bothering you?” he asked after a long moment of silence.
She let out a soft sigh at this, and turned her head so she could look at him.
“I went to the hospital today…to find why I've been sick lately,” she spoke in a murmur and turned her head back to face the wall. Sniffing, she continued, “Funny, how those healers always tell you what you never expect to hear, huh?”
James' face paled considerably and he reached over to Lily, pulling her to him so her back rested against his chest and her head nestled into the crook of his neck.
“Lily? What's wrong? What did they say?” he asked, concern evident in his voice as he hugged her body to his. “Is something wrong? Can I do anyth—“
“James, I'm pregnant,” she interrupted him after a moment of his worried ramblings. He stopped immediately, his hands going a bit slack against her and his face going even paler with surprise.
“Pregnant?” he asked, his voice soft in wonder. His hands came back to her stomach to caress in little circles along her waist and hips.
“I'm sorry; I don't know how it happened. I must have forgotten to take my potion one day and-and….Oh James! I know we decided we were going to wait until after the war, but-” She was now the one rambling until James cut her off with his mouth pressing gently against hers. A moan caught in the back of her throat in surprise as he kissed her with such tenderness that when he pulled away she felt a bit out of breath. His face was still dangerously close to hers, his lips not straying far from her, so that she could feel his slightly unsteady breath against her own lips.
“Why are you apologizing, Lily?” His eyes were dark with emotion as he looked at her with an amused smile.
“I thought you'd be angry with me,” she admitted, turning her face to the side, breaking eye contact with him for the moment. All the promises they had made to each other about not having a child until the world was safe enough for it to live in fled from her mind when his lips placed soft, feathery kisses on the side of her face.
His left hand slithered its way up her body, skimming its way carefully along her side until it made it to the side of her face so he could pull it back to face him.
“Why in the world would I be angry, Lily?” His forehead leaned against hers, bringing their faces even closer than before, so she could now feel the movement of his lips as he spoke. She reached up her hand, and took the one stroking her face, interlocking their fingers again. “This is the best thing I could ever ask for, I always wanted to be a father.” The last part was spoken so softly, Lily barely heard it. When she felt his familiar grin against her lips, she couldn't help but mirror it on her own mouth.
“I love you, James,” she whispered, squeezing his hand affectionately.
“Love you, too, Lily,” he matched her tone but then a sudden mischievous smirk stole across his features. “So…after you have this one, how many other children can we have?” He waggled his eyebrows in suggestion.
“James!” she squealed, her eyes widening.
“I think I'd like this one to be a boy,” he added as an after thought. He flipped her onto her back and took her other hand into his, weaving their fingers in a similar fashion of the other set of hands, and hovered over her. “But I'd like a daughter, too. And after that, maybe another son. Or another boy and girl. What do you think?” He leaned down to plant a kiss on her lips before she could answer, her mouth open as his lips caught hers.
They shared a series of tender, open-mouthed kisses in between smiles, before he finally allowed her to answer him.
“I think I would like to have that kind of family with you very much, James,” her whisper came as they nestled against each other for the night.
