Will You Think of Me, Harry?

By Hermione Potter

Chapter 5: Her Reflection in the Mirror

Hermione started to pack her things in her trunk when she heard someone knocking on her door.

               “Come in.”

“Hermione?” Ginny’s voice called softly as she walked in her room.

“Hey Ginny. Anything wrong?” Hermione asked. Ginny nodded and smiled.

“Everyone’s worried about you. You seem so sad now. Every time I look at you, there’s this far away look I see. You’re never happy anymore,” she explained.

“What is there to be happy of? Harry’s the only thing that could ever make me truly smile. And then he comes up and asks me to help him look for a ring for Isabelle! Seven years of this. If he hasn’t realized it now. He’s not going to realize it later,” Hermione replied, shutting her trunk.

“How do you know that for sure?” Ginny asked softly.

“Because if he knew, he wouldn’t have done this. And if he hasn’t seen me for the real me, then how can he see me later? I don’t understand. What does Isabelle have that I don’t?” Hermione ‘s voice trembled as she felt her eyes hurt.

“Hermione, it’s going to be all right. I think Isabelle knows you love him. If she does, she won’t say yes and make Harry realize that what’s he’s been looking for was right in front of him all along,” Ginny responded gently.

“Ginny! Hermione! Come on! Harry’s about to do something he’s going to regret,” Ron’s voice said from his door. Hermione and Ginny glanced at each other and ran after him down the stairs. They peered into the Common Room. Isabelle was in the Gryffindor Common Room!

“Harry, really, I’ll get in trouble if I stay any longer!” Isabelle laughed.

“Just wait a minute, love. I want to ask you something. Isabelle Porteus, will you do the honor of spending your life with me as my wife?” he proposed getting down on a knee and showing her the ring.

“Oh Harry. It’s beautiful...,” Isabelle gasped, tracing the contours of the ring.

They were so entranced in the moment, they didn’t hear the Gryffindor Common Room portrait open and someone slip out.

Hermione ran. Ran her way through the halls, looking for a way to get out. It felt like her breath was being sucked out of her body. She had to leave as soon as possible. Or else, she wouldn’t be able to leave at all.

Quickly, she walked to the gargoyle and whispered the password, going inside to Professor Dumbledore’s office.

“Professor?” she called out, but no one answered her. Then she heard a soft cry and turned to see his phoenix, Fawkes.

“You sweet bird. What beautiful sounds you make while singing. You’re lucky, you don’t have to go through what I do,” she sighed as she stroked the bird’s neck. She could hear him cooing in pleasure as he enjoyed what she was doing.

“Miss Granger?” Professor Dumbledore asked, coming down the stairs from his library.

“Professor. I came to ask...when can I leave?”

“Whenever you want,” he answered simply. Hermione nodded, starting to walk out.

“We will miss you, Hermione,” Albus commented sadly. She didn’t say anything, then walked out.

BEFORE WITH ISABELLE AND HARRY...

“I’m sorry Harry, but I have to say no,” Isabelle answered. Harry’s eyes widened.

               “Wh-What?” he said in disbelief.

“Harry, I know you like me. But you don’t love me. Just, before you make another mistake, think about it before you make it,” Isabelle whispered.

“But this is for you. I do love you,” Harry whispered with heartache.

“No you don’t. I know you don’t. Deep inside, you can never truly love me. There is only one true love in your life. And she’s been here. You were just too occupied to see it. I’m sorry. But this is how it really has to be. I like you Harry. But I can’t stand in the way of REAL true love between two people who mean the world to each other and others,” Isabelle explained, walking out. (A/N: A LOT OF WALKING OUT IN THIS CHAPTER, EH?)

NEXT DAY...

“Hermione, please think about this before you leave!” Ginny pleaded.

“Ginny, she said yes. I know she did. I promise to keep in touch with you. Don’t worry about me. I will come back. I’ll always come back,” Hermione smiled, giving her friend a long hug.

“Please don’t go,” she cried softly.

“I have to. Ginny, you’re the sister I never had. I’ll never forget about you. Hopefully, when I do get back, you and Draco will be married,” Hermione whispered in her ear. Ginny smiled tearfully and stepped back from the hug.

“Granger. You better come back. We have 7 years to make up for,” Draco grinned, leaning into a hug and giving her a kiss on the cheek.

“Oh, now how can I pass that up. Of course I’m gonna come back Drakie,” Hermione teased.

“We’ll never forget you,” he said. Hermione smiled and turned to Ron.

“Take care of yourself, all right?” he asked.

“Promise. Take care of Ginny. And look out for Harry. Good luck with Luna,” she whispered giving him a hug.

“I love you Herms. Come back to us,” he smiled.

“I love you too Ron. I’ll see you again. Give this to Harry for me,” Hermione sighed, slowly coming out of the hug, and handing him a black pouch. He nodded.

“I’ll miss you all. You too Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall. I don’t know where I’d be without your teachings,” she complimented. Minerva sniffled quietly and nodded.

“It was an honor teaching you Miss Granger,” she said.

“Good luck at Beauxbatons,” Albus nodded.

“Oh ‘Ermione! We’ll be waitin’ for you when you ge’ back,” Hagrid blubbered into his dusty sleeve.

“I’ll miss you too Hagrid. See you all again someday,” Hermione waved, getting into the carriage.

Hermione watched them waving goodbye to her until they disappeared from her vision.

“Where is everyone?” Harry asked himself that day as he sulked.

“I’ll go see Hermione. Maybe I could talk to her. She understands me,” he sighed, walking up to the Head Girl’s room and knocking on the door. No one answered.

“Hermione? Are you in there?” he called, but the door slowly creaked open. He walked in to find it empty.

“Where is everything? All her things are gone,” Harry said to himself.

Then he heard someone come through the portrait quietly.

“Ron. Is that you?” he called.

               “Harry?”

“Ron! Where is everyone? And where are Hermione’s things? Did she tell you something?” Harry asked as he saw Ron and Ginny. And Malfoy.

“How did he get in here?” he added.

“Since school is almost over, Professor Dumbledore allowed him inside,” Ginny answered, bluntly.

“Where is she?” he asked again.

               “She’s gone.” Ginny said.

“Gone? What do you mean gone?”

“She’s left. I mean, she’s on a train back to some place,” Ron answered.

“But why? Graduation isn’t until next week,” Harry said confused.

“You still haven’t realized it, have you? No. You were too busy with Isabelle to notice anything,” Draco growled.

“What on earth are you talking about?”

“The one person who’s loved you since day one. Since that day she met us. Hermione. But you were blind, were you not?” Ginny asked defiantly. Harry’s eyes widened.

“That’s absurd. She’s never shown one bit of interest in me,” he replied.

“Harry, I’m afraid to tell you, she has. She’s been trying to get you to notice her since last year,” Ron shook his head.

“No. She couldn’t of..why else would she help me pick out a ring?”

“Because she wanted you to be happy. She was being selfless. Unlike you. Who didn’t even consider her feelings before your own. IT WAS ALL ABOUT ISABELLE! Wasn’t it? She hid her feelings after she found out you liked Isabelle. Remember Cho? She helped you then too. But you didn’t give a damn about how she felt, did you?” Ginny told him.

Harry stood there, shocked from what he was hearing. Come to think of it, when they were at the jewelry store, she had a sad smile on her face. She didn’t seem herself. She felt...far away from him. Yet, she was close to everyone else. Was he really blind? Was Hermione the one for him. Was that what Isabelle was talking about? So many questions swam in his head.

“Everyone knew it, Harry. Even Professor Snape. All the Slytherins knew. Everyone were holding bets on when you two would get together. But I guess they all lost, eh?” Draco asked.

               “It’s not my fault-“

”That’s a load of bull! Even Isabelle knew. That’s why she said no to you. I didn’t want Hermione to know, then I thought about you. Maybe you can feel what she’s been feeling. For the past seven years. You never gave her a second look. All she’s been to you is a friend. But now it’s your turn to suffer what she did. She told me to give this to you,” Ron told him softly, feeling sorry for him as he handed Harry the black pouch.

“Thanks Ron...I’ll see you guys later. I just wanna be alone,” Harry whispered, going to his Head Boy room.

He closed the door and plopped on the bed before opening the pouch. Inside was a photo album attached to a piece of paper.

Harry,

This photo album is full of our years together. And I wish we shared more...

Hermione

Harry placed the not aside and opened the book. His eyes widened as he saw their sixth year ball when he danced with her. She was radiant that night. In her silver dress.

Throughout the whole thing, images clouded his mind. Her smiles. Her sparkling eyes. Everything about her. He sighed and placed them in the bag before heading to Hermione’s old room.

It felt empty and cold. There was no earthly glow anymore. No warmth. Just bare and gone. He dropped the bag on the floor and buried his body underneath the covers and burying his face into the pillow. It smelled like her. Roses and lilies. Her favorite flowers. His eyes burned as his heart sunk into his stomach.

Then he noticed something rolled out of the black bag. Harry picked up a small decorative box and opened it. A picture appeared in the air to show him the moments that happened between him and her. The moments he let slip by. Then soft music began to play from the box. Hermione was always good with this sort of thing. He looked inside the box and saw a ring that had a ruby heart and two hearts of emeralds and sapphires on each side. His and Hermione’s birthstones. He let the box drop on the bed as it kept playing music and the pictures played across the room.

But something happened. A mirror floated from the bag and to Harry. A golden handle mirror. Then Hermione’s face appeared in it and started to talk.

Harry. If you have this mirror, it means I’m gone. I’m sorry I didn’t get to say goodbye to you in person. I don’t think I could without breaking down. I just couldn’t bear to see you. It would be so painful.

I’m glad I got to know you. To be your friend. I need to say this before I run out of my Gryffindor courage.

               I love you.

There. I said it. I’ve always loved you Harry. I was afraid to tell you. Afraid that you’d reject me. Afraid that our friendship would never be the same. And now it’s not going to be. When you liked Cho, I didn’t know then that I loved you. It was last year I liked you. But when you met Isabelle. It was then realized I loved you. But it can’t be. Can it?

Maybe I was meant to be alone. I certainly wasn’t meant to be with someone in love, was I? I wish the best of luck to you and Isabelle. I will miss you very much, Harry.

If you and Isabelle get married, you have to promise me to invite me. It’d be heartbreaking to see the man I love getting married, but at least you’d be happy. I’m sorry, but I can’t help but cry. It’s so painful.

Every night..I wondered what was wrong with me. Why you couldn’t love me. I know I’m not so beautiful. Not even pretty. Was it because I was just too into my studies? Was it because I wasn’t good at Quidditch? Or something else? Every night. You don’t know how hard it was to stop crying. I just wanted you to be happy. I didn’t care if I was. It was all about you. You’re all I could ever think of. I just couldn’t tell you it.

Inside that box is something Sirius gave to me. He said it was your mother’s wedding ring. I don’t know why he gave it to me instead of you. Then I began to dream that one day you’d put this ring on my finger and call me Hermione Potter. That’s not going to happen, is it?

I’ll miss you most out of everyone Harry. You mean everything to me. I’ll never forget you. But can you just do me one favor? Don’t forget me and don’t forget I’ll always love you, even if I shall still remain your best friend.

Will you think of me, Harry? Don’t forget me. Please.

Then her face disappeared from the mirror and it dropped on the bed. Harry stared at it. “Hermione.” Her name uttered from his lips.

“I was so blind. Why couldn’t I see you?” he whispered to himself as tears came from his eyes. He looked to the other side of the room and saw a broken picture frame on the floor. He slowly got up and his eyes widened as he saw what was under the broken shards of glass.

It was a picture of Hermione and him embraced. Apparently, she had thrown it on the ground. He picked the picture up and ran his fingers over her face which smiled and laughed. He’d never see that smile or that face again. He read the back and saw that it read Harry and Hermione-For Love and Friendship.

Hermione was in love with him. And he let her slip from him. He could never tell her how he felt now. That he was in love with her. He wanted to say sorry for being blind. For being an idiot. But he couldn’t. Because it was too late. Too late for him to tell her he loved her too. And now, she was gone. Forever because it was his fault she had left him and his broken heart at Hogwarts.

Harry collapsed on the ground and listened to the melody of the box and heard her voice from the mirror again. The voice that would be haunting his dreams from now on. The voice he’d never hear from her again. Harry picked up the ring and sighed.

“Will I ever see you again, my love?” he asked into the air.

He turned his face and looked at the mirror.

Will you think of me, Harry? Don’t forget me. Please.

“I can’t forget you Hermione. Now, I won’t ever stop thinking of you. I know you’re out there somewhere. I just want you to know. I love you Hermione, And I’ll never stop,” Harry said softly as the tears he shed couldn’t stop.

A/N: I am so pissed at my TV company because I wanted to record the GoF sneak peaks on the DVR and they told me I had the wrong kind of box AFTER I thought I recorded it. You know how much that sucks? Ughhhhhh. I hate my damn TV right now!

Lol. Did you all like this chapter? I dunno if I should do a sequel...even if it’s against the rules lmao.
