OK, I've been trying to understand the meaning of the last part for a few days and I honestly can't understand. Is Harry alive? I got that doubt coz the man who came in the end fits in the description of Harry. I haven't read that book, you've been telling abt and I don't think I will be able to, so will you please tell me whether they are alive or not. Please.
Author Feedback: If I could, then I would.

I cannot, however, for one rather important reason: It would spoil it for the people who don't want to be told, and who want to work it out for themselves.

All I can say is that the clues are there, if you choose to believe them. There are, actually, three of them.

1) Erik greatly resembles Harry. This could mean that they are the same person, or it could simply be a coincidence.

2) Somebody moved Hermione's grave. It is possible that someone else knew how they felt about each other, or it could mean that Harry and/or Hermione herself were alive to make the change.

3) The last two line: "He... until that moment, had not existed. Except on paper." So does that mean that Harry assumed Erik's identity, does it mean that someone else knew about it and took it over, or is it just a massive coincidence?

What really happens at the end is entirely dependant on your interpretation of the signs. You could choose to believe that a stranger (or a friend of Harry's) took over the identity of Erik Plutarch or you could believe, as many others do, that Harry and Hermioe faked their suicides and are living together in Canada.

*snicker* I understand "what" they did and can even guess at least some of the "how" and I find it wryly amusing that Ginny, despite her best efforts, finds herself having to hunt down another rich husband. I rather suspect that Ron has rather bittersweet feelings about losing Hermione, but he doesn't have much choice but to adjust to the new reality and move on, which he obviously has done quite well.

Meanwhile, Mr. & Mrs. Plutarch are enjoying the life together that they so richly deserve despite the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune".
Author Feedback: Pretty well sums it up.

(On Ginny) Ain't revenge a bitch?

(On Ron) Somebody had to, and it sure wasn't going to be Gin.

(On Erik & Beatrice) They earned it. Somebody up there *nods significantly towards the sky* owes them big time.

A rather bittersweet fic. Even though I've never seen the Shawnhawk Redemption, or any of Stephen King's works, I understand the ending. However, there is one thing that I don't get: What was Hermione's choice of death? Her being found in a bathtub seems to imply drowning, but the legible ink writing on her body seems to contradict that, so I'm a bit confused. Care to shed some light on this?

Thanks.
Author Feedback: I'm glad you understod it! As you can see, quite a few didn't.

You should definately check him out. King writes long books, but he writes very good books.

Certainly. Hermione drew the markings on her body magically, so the ik wouldn't run when she got into the bathtub. Her ultimate cause of death, therefore, is indeed drowning. Hope that helps!

WOW... hold on I need to regain my sense of speech just read it again! I was reviewing when the blasted comp got shut down by pesky little siblings .Ok that was an absolutely HEART-BREAKING fic! It was written so beautifully and extremely touching! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL fic! You caught their essence (the essence of HMS Harmony as I like to call it) That letter Harry wrote was just utterly mind-blowing beautiful and absolutely tore my heart out of That was just BEAUTIFUL! The beginning part of it made it even more heart-breaking to read My emotions were all over the place and like I need REALLY sad and HEARTBREAKING fics to make me CRY CRY they can make me sad but I actually felt the one or two tears but I hastily brushed them away. You could say I have a no crying complex for things that aren't like AMAZING now if only same could be said for real life *sigh* ok way off topic. I could connect really well with what you wrote and I truly truly truly loved it. The deaths were just so sad I loved that mysterious ending and I TOTALLY GOT IT well atleast I think so LOL! Anyways I saw that you don't want people to spoil it but I actually saw the logics and everything behind it the moment I read it I knew who they were and the moment in the window and her emotions and thoughts clicked into place! Amazing,UTTERLY BRILLIANTLY MIND BLOWING story! Correct me if I am wrong abt that I it amaxing story!!

Author Feedback: Um.....

I don't really know how to respond to that...except to thank you for the review. I personally didn't think it was all that great, but it's not about what I think; it's what you [the readers] think.

Well if I made you cry, even a little, with the suicides, I hope the enigmatic ending made you fele better. Thank you for not ruining it for those people who haven't gotten it, as you can see there are plenty of them. Reading between the lines though, I think you did get it. Way to go!

hey who's "Mrs Beatrice Plutarch"? good story by the way, =) just really really really sadd... =(
Author Feedback: If you know who Erik is, then Beatrice becomes rather obvious.

I'm sorry, I wish I could be more clear. But I can't be giving away all my secrets, can I?

Author Feedback: Am I to take that as you understood the ending? If so, please don't ruin it for everyone else. That would just be mean.

I thought this was a well written story. It was very straight forward and completely easy to understand.

I like the input about Ginny. Haha, the bitch gets what she deserves.

I didn't get the ending too, but I read your response to Harry85's review and still...well, don't get it I only read a few of King's books so...

Thanks for the fic.

Author Feedback: Easy to understand, until the last paragraph.

Damn straight. Plus it leads nicely into the ending, which no one understands.

I can't really explain the ending any better than I did to Harry85 without spoiling the enigma of it, but if you go and read Different Seasons, or watch The Shawshank Redemption, you should understand a bit better.

Ah, well, my idea was that somehow Harry and Hermione got married in Canada. However, that would mean their suicides were fake, and they seemed pretty realt o me. Might get that movie to get a more definite idea on what you did here

Anyway, no, I do not feel too emasculated when I happen to cry over a fanfic I know it can happen to anyone, especially when it is so well written and powerful
Author Feedback: And that's the rub, isn't it? WIsh I could say more, but that would really ruin it.

Definately watch the movie, watch it even if you understood what I had done. It's a really great movie.

Er...first of all, good job on writing this. You really touched me, to the point of making me shed a tear or two, reading Harry's letter to her, and I assure you this is not a common thing for me to cry over fanfiction. After all, many would think a guy shouldn't cry over something like this, and yet at times it happens. this is one of those times for me.

I'm a bit confused by the ending though. Can you explain it to me?
Author Feedback: Wow. That's just...wow. Don't feel too emasculated for crying over a fanfiction, it happens to everyone at some point.

I can't come out and tell you, of course, but here's the gist of it. In order to make sure that Ginny couldn't get any of his money, Harry created a phantom beneficiary named Erik Plutarch. Every knut of the Potter fortune was transferred to an account in that name, and the Potter account received a monthly allowance. That way, when Harry comitted suicide, Ginny would at best be able to get that monthly allowance, which was peanuts compared to the entire fortune.

However at the end, someone adds a name to Erik's account. Erik, who has come alive at this point, adds the name of Mrs Beatrice Plutarch. In other words, Erki gets married. In Canada.

If that doesn't help, than I reccomend heading down to your local library and renting a copy of Stephen King's 'Different Seasons.' The very first story, 'Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,' heavily influenced the ending. Or you could rent the movie, whichever works for you.

A poignant story with a seriously thought provoking ending. I'm not usually one to go along with the 'Romeo & Juliet' ending, but despite your intro warning me that was likely the case, I still read on. I was impressed with the way you dealt with the unrequited love aspect and as you rightly say there is a little hope at the end.

Altogether a well written and thoughtful piece with a question at the end that leaves the reader to make up their own idea as to the identiies of the mysterious Erik & Beatrice Plutarch.

I'm sure many of your readers will find the ending inconclusive and may wish further explanation, but I am entirely happy with the whole story.

Thank you.

What a sad sad ending. I literally bawled whiel reading it. So sad. But the ending intrigued me. Who is Mr and Mrs. Plutarch?
Author Feedback: Why thank you jediyoda. That's pretty much the reaction I was looking for.

There are three clues to Erik's identity, and Beatrice's becomes pretty obvious once you figure that one out. I wish I could tell you outright, but that would just spoil it for everyone else.

Are you saying that Harry and Hermione are alive in your fanfic!! Please do write further, I just can't wait to read more.
Author Feedback: The clues are there, and that's all I'm going to say on the subject. Read or watch The Shawshank Redemption, and it might makes thngs more clear.

I'm afraid that this story is finished, but keep your eyes on some of my other stuff if you just plain like me.

The Shawshank ending is pretty okay, but I think that ending would only really work in a longer more involved fic; I'm not sure if this plot would even work with it, but I'm sure if tweaked it would be alright. In a fic as short as this, it seems like a rip off instead. Sorry if that sounded harsh, just wanted to give some constructive criticism.
Author Feedback: It really was a rip-off .

I agree that King's stuff flow better in the long term, but this was never meant to be a chapter fic. Just a short little 'What if...' thing.

Eh, pretty cool idea. Nice one shot, I guess. I liked the slightly romanticized suicide theme (uh, oxymoron, anyone?)... I thought it was a bit rushed at the end, though. Starting from about when Hermione killed herself - the beginning and middle were great, though.
