While I do not really know Austen that well (dragged to the movie version of Emma by my beloved) I like the way you have created the analogies and gone slowly with the relationship that should have been in canon from book 6

I haven't read anything on Portkey in ages.. In fact, I haven't read anything in the Harry Potter world in what feels like forever. It wasn't that I was bitter how the 7th book ended. That book was actually my favorite in the series. I just haven't found anything worth reading in this HP world, until now. I think this story has brought it all back to me, why I love these two characters so, so much. Such a beautiful, subtle story, as always, and definitely worth the win for this contest. Great job, and hopefully you can find time to write some more with a newborn in the house..  |
Author Feedback: Thanks. ^_^ It's a bit difficult to get past the HP Epilogue, especially when it comes to writing fics, but I suppose the lot of us have to deal.
If you're interested in reading more post-DH fanfiction of sorts, I'm watching a community in LJ named The Road Ahead: http://community.livejournal.com/road_ahead/. It's an RPG, but the writing is EXCELLENT. It takes off from the Great Hall in Hogwarts at the end of the 7th book. No epilogue yet, and it's implied that the epilogue may very well be ignored (I think it's recommended. Lol). I don't write in it. I'm just a watcher, but it's wonderful. I think it's done handling the RHr and HG issue, but it was all beautifully and naturally written. No evil Ginny and no evil Ron. Ginny's making googoo eyes at Neville now, I think. I forget who Ron is making googly eyes at, and I'm still trying to figure out if Harry and Hermione have a thing. I have some catching up to do in that community, too.

I loved this fanfiction! I always thought Harry and Hermione would get together after they've divorced Ginny and Ron, so I wasn't depressed when I read the 7th book. I am eagerly waiting for the 2nd chapter! You are a great writer, and I simply loved how you wrote the plot making referrences to one of Jane Austen's greatest books, Emma.
P.S: I accidentally pushed the [Report this story to the admins] buttom, but I closed the window almost immediately when I realized what buttom I've pushed. I hope it doesn't take your fic off the website, it was an accident, I'd never want your story offline.

What a great read - this is truly a lovely chapter. There are so very few authors of post DH HHr stories out there who have been gutsy enough to brave writing one with the epilogue intact. We need good ones with a better outcome to get over the ill feeling from reading what JKR wrote. And although I have only read the first chapter, I already feel the bad taste of the epilogue leaving my mouth. Thanks for doing this.
Divorce is always sad, I feel bad for Harry and Ginny. (Ron was never right for Hermione - so I don't feel bad about that  ) As much as I ship Harry-Hermione, I can see your story from Ginny's POV and it's sad because she gave years of her life taking care of Harry and the kids - for whatever reasons she had, she did and did so very well, and she ends up driving him away. I know Harry tried his best to make things work out but he still comes across to me like an ungrateful, self centered prat unless Ginny was the one to give up trying to make things work out.
Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining that they're divorced Really looking forward to reading the rest of it and congrats on being amongst the winners of the Elder Wand Competition. |

Yeah, Harry was a real prat and I'm a little afraid to admit that it was a deliberate thing. I tried to do it with Hermione, too. I suppose I was trying to show that the fault couldn't all be with the Weasleys, even if I don't really like them. I wanted to show that divorce, while in some cases can be blamed on only one party, can also be a result of the faults of both, and that it's not easy for either party if at some point, they cared about one another for real.
So I wanted them to divorce  but I wanted to make it a bit different than Ron being a complete prat and Ginny being a b*tch. This time, I wanted Hermione to be the b*tch and Harry the prat. LOL. However, I also wanted to show how positively compatible Harry and Hermione are in the midst of it all--how they never lost their bond even having married other people and even having their flaws drive their former partners away, while it never drove HHr apart. ^_^ |

AWWW! this is so incredibley sweet, and very, very smart. i love your analysis of Emma and how it relates to harry, hermione, and all the others. this is extremely well written and i enjoyed every bit of it. although, i did sort of hope for a little more romance between harry and hermione, but i still like how you have it moving at a slower, more relistic pace. if you ever do decide to continue this, i'll certainly be here to read it.  |

Wow, that's very nicely done, and with a properly Austen-like management of scenes. Poignant but not nasty resolutions of the HrR and H-G mistakes, and the lingering promise of a proper future... thank you. Guess I'll have to check out your other stories, I've not read them yet! |
