Very well written, and cleverly wrapped up. I particularly liked the use of the crowd and the description of Harry's feelings in the beginning of the short story. Good job.

Incredibly well written, and very well finished, gotta say. I rarely feel that tell-tale shiver of a good wrapped up ending when i read a fic, but i felt it this time.
At the begining it felt a bit strange, but i suppose that's the impression you wanted to convey, coz that is how Harry was feeling right?
Cute one-shot, thx for writing for us to read, twas a pleasure.
Off to read more of ur stories... |
Author Feedback: Strange indeed. : ) One thing to consider is the isolated aspect of it all - here's Harry, alone in this crowd, enjoying the anonymity of the situation. And yet he's surrounded by people enjoying the holidays with their companions, holding hands and making merry, and it's both ironic and odd that once he's truly alone, truly an unknown, he wishes he had someone with him to share it with.
So strange, yes, with a dash of paradox, and so on and so forth. Thanks for reading, and thanks even more for reviewing.
I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! And even more glad that the words serve as inspiration for a picture, given that I used what was probably a very similar (mental) picture as the basis for the story.
And don't worry - I'm completely not talented at drawing, so I can definitely sympathize.
Thanks for reading and reviewing! |

Oh, this was simply fantastic! I've been looking for the perfect Harry/Hermone holiday fic, and after reading this? I definitely think She Always Does completely takes the cake. =D Honestly, this was amazing, right down to the very last word.
Speaking of words - you have quite a flare for them, don't you? How you do it, I have no idea, but everything just seems to flow together seamlessly in all of your works. I mean, maybe you have to be in the right headspace and state of mind to fully get the implications of your stories, but I know for certain that I've understood them each time. And I'm not boasting on my behalf, that was actually meant to be a compliment for YOU!
Seriously, thank-you so much for writing this. It had warmth, angst, and most of all, the beautiful touch of soft, gentle realism. You really know how to create a magnificent atmosphere. When I finished the story, I actually had to blink a few times and bring myself back to reality - for a second, it felt as if I were in Hogsmeade, right there with them.
And you know, the best part was that you didn't even need to include what seems to be the necessity for every shipper holiday fic (i.e mistleoe, hot cocoa, presents). All you had to do was include snow, a hazy walk through Hogsmeade, and Harry and Hermione being...well, Harry and Hermione. Absolutely brilliant. |
Author Feedback: My, such a lovely review. : )
First and foremost let me thank you for taking the time to review, and for doing so in such a magnificent way. Try as I might to not gauge the 'success' of my stories on their review count, it's always a little depressing when you're stuck firmly in the single digits, heh.
And I freely admit to being a little proud of how my words tend to come together. : ) It's odd, now that I think about it, but I consider writing to be something very similar to music, and, as such, always make the effort to give my words and phrases a sense of lyricality (musicality), if you will. That may not exactly be what you were referring to in regards to the seamless nature of my works, but I think they go hand-in-hand, so thank you very much for commenting on it and letting me know I'm doing something right.
And as far as atmosphere goes, well, I find that I normally find inspiration for my stories with some sort of picture, which might explain why I usually try to incorporate descriptive imagery. I'm glad it worked. : ) As I mentioned in a previous review, it's always a tad dangerous to focus on static description, as keeping the reader both interested and entertained is not an easy thing to do when you start off painting pictures with your words.
Kudos for that last paragraph in your review, by the way. You've captured very well the kind of picture I had in my mind when I sat down to write this story: "snow, a hazy walk through Hogsmeade, and Harry and Hermione being...well, Harry and Hermione." And at the risk of my ego growing any further, I'll just say thanks for liking and understanding the story so much, and thanks again for leaving such a fantastic review.
Here's hoping I'll hear from you again with any of my future works.
