Omg, I can't believe I almost missed this sequel.

I loved Restoring hope, it's one of my most favorite stories. This sequel is much appreciated and unexpected. I wouldn't of seen it if I weren't looking for a new story to read.

Thank you for this.
Author Feedback: You're welcome, of course... but this is just a series of vignettes, not a true story as such. I hope to have something soon, if there's any luck (or justice) in the world. Keep faith!

"Think of Hope as what Harry might have been, in another life."

I like it!! And I'm much less jealous of Hope now :-)
Author Feedback: Glad I could help, brad.

umm, the last part about the two other girls kind of confused me. anyway, good chapter, I am really enjoying this story or what ever you want to call it. please update soon
Author Feedback: (Forgive me for taking so long to reply to your post. It's been a wonderful Real Life. ) Anyway, thanks so much for reviewing! The last part about the other two girls: Isabeau and Michelle were with Hope when she was caught. But they managed to escape Peppercorn's notice -- partly because Hope let herself be caught to distract Peppercorn, and partly (though I don't say this in so many words) because they have the invisibility cloak.

Gryffindors, all.

Talk to you soon... P.

Great continuation. I enjoy the transition into a more mundane setting. I will continue reading no matter the outcome.
Author Feedback: (Yeah, that's what I'm saying about Book 7, too. ) Glad you liked this! Remember, these are only snippets of scenes, not an integrated story. That comes later.

Thank you for reviewing.

Hey, a Paracelsus story, my night was complete! :-)

I found myself a little bit upset ... jealous? ... of Hope in this one. Without a doubt she's heaps more powerful than either Harry or Hermione were at the age of eleven, and I found myself sort of resenting that a bit. I *enjoy* reading stories with a 'powerful' Harry Potter, someone worthy of the place he occupies in the magical world, someone with the ability to be the hero. It's a problem I've always had with canon, because as far as I can tell he's just a normal, middling wizard in JKR's series, someone who has problems sub-vocalising spells, and the only clear indication of any above-average 'power' he's displayed is that patronus at the end of his third year (and I've always maintained that was mainly due to his knowing *in advance*, thanks to his time travelling, that he would succeed). Oh, yeah, and he can fly real good, wow.

One of the many reasons I like your Restitution series so much is because you feature a 'quitely powerful' Harry; not a flashy unbelievable super!Harry with a hundred animagus forms who can perform spells wandless, but someone who is still - quietly - recognised to be a notch or two above the rest, and whose actions support same. I love that stuff.

So in this chapter I'm a bit peeved at Hope for effortlessly being so much better than my hero Harry - or heroes H & Hr. Ah well, that's just me. I just don't like comparing Hope to Harry and having him come up short, I guess.

Thinking about it, part of my discomfit is because your Harry in Hope's universe is much more like canon, extrapolated from HBP, and thus much more the 'underpowered, just adequate' wizard that I find wanting. But that's not really fair of me, because - thinking about it more - I recall how in your series you had Harry recognised as having the rare ability to do wandless magic. Maybe I should re-read your novel again, perhaps enough clues to Harry being powerful would pop up to reassure me that his daughter doesn't have him totally outclassed with one wand tied behind her back. Like she certainly could at age 11.

One thing I can't understand is how Hope's display of super-duper magical ability got her off the hook regarding the cheating accusation. Or otherwise what constituted Peppercorn's charge in the first place. I can't see how 'significant adult intervention', as he says, has anything to do with the practical magical dexterity Hope demonstrated in McGonagall's office ... so that demonstration shouldn't have had any bearing on the subject. If there was grounds for her 'cheating' before she changed water into wine (oh dear, what are you/JKR saying here? :-) ) then there is likewise substance to the accusation afterwards?

Or maybe I'm simply on McGonagall's side - Peppercorn's an idiot.

"Harry Potter's eyes looked back at her" -- love that line.

And enjoyed muchly your use of Luna for humour in the first scene. Thanks for the chapter!
Author Feedback: A review from Brad! I can go to bed happy now...

I confess the idea of super-Hope troubles me a bit, too. But I already showed her to be well above average, in "Restoring Hope", and this is more of the same. Look at it this way: Harry was a powerful wizard, even though he was raised by the Dursleys. How might he have turned out, if he'd been raised by James and Lily? Been given potion lessons from the age of nine? Tutored in magical theory by the most brilliant researcher of the century? And, for a short while, intensely coached by the champion of white magic? Surely, he'd have been a prodigy.

Think of Hope as what Harry might have been, in another life.

Now that she's at Hogwarts, her powers will plateau for a while (it's not like her classes will challenge her!) until she's matured enough to start building them up again. Then we'll see. Of course, if I write the sequel to "Restoring Hope", it will have Hope making as huge a mistake as, well, as Harry did in OotP.

As for Peppercorn and his little kangaroo court: Peppercorn was convinced that Hope must be cheating, because no first-year should have been able to perform as she did without adult help. He thought he'd found that source of help when he caught Hope with Hermione's portrait. Having an instant answer for every assignment would have been cheating. But Hope's demonstration in McGonagall's office showed that she knew enough to perform as she did *without* adult help -- she didn't *need* to cheat.

That, and the fact that Peppercorn is, indeed, an idiot.

Thank you, as always, for a wonderful (and thoughtful!) review, Brad. It makes me happy. Be ever well...

Nice chapter. However are you sure you wanted to establish that the official defence teacher is that incompetant and distrusted by Minerva? The impression I get is of someone about as competant as Harry's second year defence teacher and only slightly more trustworthy then the Trio considered Snape. I that was not what you meant to establish you should think of toning down his incompetance and perhaps establish that not ALL the other professors had known about Harry and Hermionie's portraits.

Additionally I can't see how Hope talking with Hermionie would allow her to cheat, unless the tests were the same from one year to the next (in which case Ravenclaw and Slytherin would all get perfect scores every year) or Hermionie could read the tests in advance (in which case I'm sure some Sltherin students would have figured out how to get the answers long before this) if neither of those is true any help hermionie could offer would be the equivalent of additional study with some books the teacher didn't know.

The Unicorn
Author Feedback: Hey there, Unicorn! Well, as to the "offical defense teacher", remember what we established in "Restoring Hope": the DADA Professor's job is still cursed. They can only keep a DADA Professor for a year. Ron's not officially the DADA Professor, so the curse doesn't touch him, yet he's still teaching the practical stuff to fourth-years and higher. He provides the sense of continuity (and good practical lessons); the DADA Professor is mostly a figurehead. Which Peppercorn's predecessors all understood, and accepted with good grace. Not Peppercorn, though.

Doesn't matter. Even if the curse weren't there, he won't be back, methinks.

As for the question of cheating: it's a bit more than owning some additional books. The idea is that having Hermione's portrait there to feed you all the answers, dictate your essays, and in general do your assignments and research for you, is an unfair advantage. Which is cheating, no matter how you cut it. Hermione would never do that, of course, but Peppercorn doesn't believe that. Petty fraction of a man that he is.

Take care, and thank you for your thoughts! I enjoy critiques: they keep me honest.

It was a lovely chapter I really like how Hope is like the perfect mix of her parents and I can imagine Peppercorn's angry face It was great
Author Feedback: Yeah, Peppercorn's filling a void left at Hogwarts by Snape's unlamented departure. He'll get his, never fear.

Thanks for the note!

Very, Very Happy to see a new chapter to this amazing story, like all the interactions, can't wait to see what she has a foot! Can't write now rushing to see a film and then got a midterm tommorow. Glad to see you again write more later.
Tim
Author Feedback: It's only a bunny, not a real story chapter, but... yeah, happy to still be here. Good luck on your midterm, Tim. Au revoir.

I do hope it's nothing serious! Anyway Para have you considered being a pro writer? You could be the BOMB!

God Bless you

Jay

PS thanks dude, I'd insert a here but we're both males who aren't well, you know!
Author Feedback: Nothing too serious, just RL whacking me upside the head with a bit more force than usual. Happens all the time.

If I ever turn pro, I'll be sure you get some of the credit. Later...

That was a sweet touch at the end. Turn, indeed. How irresponsibly unfair of Magic to obey the vernacular of a powerful Pottie.
Author Feedback: That particular Pottie has always had a "feel" for magic, more than most of his peers. And Hermione, brilliant though she is, has never been able to match him in that... frustrating her no end.

Talk to you soon.....

Sweet. I hope there is more to come in this universe. I think you have captured the characters very nicely.
Author Feedback: I appreciate the kind words. Thank you for dropping in... I do hope to have more vignettes in the near future. Happy Christmas!
