I really like this darker exploration in your writing. It's a good risk to take.
The depression at the beginning really serves to highlight the joy at the end, keeping the piece from being cotton-candy sweet.

It was really sweet, poor Hermione, I laugh a lot with that broom .. It took out all the angst of the situation..
