I’m sorry, but I cant say that I liked this too much. The writing itself was good, but the story was a tad convoluted. First off, I cant imagine Hermione wanting to live a lie. Either she’d be with Harry, or she wouldn’t . I also don’t know what dating (or pretending to date) someone else accomplishes. Does dating Ron put her in less danger than NOT dating Harry? No. So if they really are that worried, just don’t date each other. Pretending to date others doesn’t add anything (plus, if the point is Harry’s lack of occulumency skills, wont Voldy be able to tell things aren’t on the up-and-up?).

Another issue: Hermione is in danger already as Harry’s friend (not to mention being the smartest witch in a century who also happens to be muggleborn). Dating him wouldn’t make things much worse. And if they believe that Herms would be in more danger, I cant imagine they’d think it wouldn’t put Ginny in more danger too. Finally, Harry walks away at the end? Sounds like a very selfish act on his part. This Harry is too frightened to try, disregarding Hermione’s feeling in the process. To me, that’s way OOC for him, and I cant imagine Hermione putting up with that. He’s pretty much saying that they can only have a relationship on his terms, and I think Hermione would tell him where to go! LOL.

I know people want to try to “explain away” HBP, but it’s just silly. (a), Herms was really not that OOC in the book (just look at how hard she was on Harry in book 5), and (b) Herms and Harry were never going to get together in cannon. See, IMO, that’s what is so great about fanfiction: getting to experience something that wont necessarily happen in cannon. I know Ron and Hermione will get together in the books, and yet, I mostly read H/HR fanfic. They’re my two favorite characters, so I want stories that focus on them. Doesn’t mean I have a problem with the book, or that I suddenly think JKR is a bad writer. She just continued along the path she started many many years ago.

Oh wow I liked this a lot!

It would be the only way book 6 would make sense to me too...if is was all a charade to protect Hermione...

I am glad I read this. Thanks for writing it.

Really fitting song for the situation...
Though I'm not quite sure that I'm ok with this whole idea... I mean, the way you put it it seems like they don't care about making Ginny be in more danger than she already is...
I understand that she lives in the Burrow and all... but still she is in more danger than pretty much anyone else...
Anyway, it's your take at what happened in HBP so... we are entitled to have different views...

Great chapter. This sounds so like Harry. Keeping her away but wanting her near. Great use of the song. Keep up the good work!

Really cute!! I loved it!
It's sad in a certain way but still really cute...I'm a lover,a big lover to be exact,so that's why I love these stories sooo much!
Well I'm still getting used to Portugal's heat so don't mind my stupid reviews...

Kisses 'n' hugs,
Joanne
Author Feedback: Thank you for the review. It was hard to write this one because my other stories turn out much happier. But this one wouldn't leave my head until I wrote it down. Enjoy Portugal!

Nicely written, but a little too sad for me.

And after reading the other reviews, I agree with fenriswolf.
What "greater risk" could Hermione possibly be in?

& I'm sure Ginny would still be a target after her encounter in CoS.
Leaving us to hope that Harry would eventually be victorious in his fight, how would he come back and explain to Ginny she was being used, and he was going back to Hermione now that they are all safe?
But I guess that's another story.

Still a good job.

Author Feedback: Thanks for the review. Yeah, this was my first "angst" story and I think I prefer my little fluffs...but you gotta try something new, right?

As for Ginny being "used", I guess it wasn't clear in my story, but she & Ron had volunteered to help out...so she was aware of the situation all along.

I know the part about Ginny being less of a target was a bit of a stretch.

Thanks again for your review!

It was beautiful and you captured the pain in Harry and Hermione that H/Hr Shippers are now feeling. It would be so easy to give up...but we musn't because H/Hr Shippers never do, not when they can see what true love is. I liked how you incorporated the song lyrics, it flowed wonderfully!
Author Feedback: Thank you so much. Yes, it's hard to see/read book 6 when you just feel that H/Hr are soul mates. At least we have Portkey!

I suppose it's one way to explain the craziness of book six, but there are holes in Harry's reasons you could drive the Knight Bus through. It always makes me a bit crazy to see the 'I can't put you in more danger' whine coming out of Harry's mouth. The only way that would make sense would be if he started dating someone completely new, like Susan Bones or Padma Patil. Hermione's already so high on Tom's hit list that even dating Harry couldn't make her more of a target. In fact, being involved with someone as high-profile as Harry might make her more safe, not less, sort of like what would happen to a girl dating Prince William. As for Ginny, yes she has all those brothers, but they're scattered to hell and gone, not hanging around keeping her safe. In fact, seeing as how she's part of an old Pureblood family, dating Harry might put her at more risk just like the others.

Finally, I just can't see Hermione agreeing to hiding away her feelings, and what's worse using another friend as an unwitting decoy to keep herself safe. That just seems awfully out of character for her. All in all this would have been better if she'd gotten good and mad during their rendezvous, and instead of pulling a Cho, laid down the law. She would have ended up freeing them both to declare their love for each other, and coincidentally freeing the 'power the Dark Lord knows not', the power of love.
Author Feedback: Thanks for the thoughtful review. I loved your analogy of the "Knight Bus"...it made me laugh. I know Ginny not being as much of a target as Hermione was stretching it a bit, but I suppose the usual fluff writer in me wanted to get away from the details and get to the emotions that I experienced while reading book 6. This was my first angst story...but I wanted to try something new. Plus, JK didn't give me much to work with. I could pick up on clues to R/H (although I'd prefer to look the other way), but the whole H/G thing seemed to come from out of the blue for me. I had a hard time reconciling that in my mind.

As for Hermione's character, I agree that the Hermione we knew in books 1-5 probably would have "laid down the law", but her character in book 6 seemed so preoccupied and different. She also seemed to have realized that while Harry depends on his friends, he has grown confident about his own opinions and her constant nagging him wouldn't be as effective.

Thanks again for your review. While the short & praising reviews keep me wanting to write more, thoughtful ones like yours keep my ego in check and help me improve.

Bittersweeet... and wouldn't it be wonderful if this was the truth?? I think that Harry will defeat Voldemort anyway for Hermione (and his other friends), so in a way, you ended on a note of complete truth.

I liked it... different, but still great!
Author Feedback: I agree with you. I think that even though Harry didn't express it as much as in the previous 5 books, Hermione still means a lot to him and defeating Voldemort will be not only for himself, but for his parents, his friends, his surrogate family, and for Sirius.

Thanks for the review!
