I honestly, genuinely loved this story. It’s the slice of reality I think we’d find it the HP universe wasn’t dolled up with sugar and puppies and flowers. I think this, Harry defeating Voldemort but only to lose himself in doing so, is a much more honest reaction, and I loved it.

And I really enjoyed the fact that Hermione couldn’t save him. There was no doubt that some part of the old Harry was still alive in him, but to acknowledge that it was fading with every passing day was a great move on your part, IMO. This encounter could not have been more heart-wrenchingly perfect if you tried. To know that Harry’s going to lose that last shred of himself, that the last thing he’ll lose before he’s a monster is his love for Hermione… and that Hermione knows this full well but can’t turn him in… that’s romance in my twisted little world.

I must commend you for the end of this story, when Harry leaves her because it’s the only thing to do because he still manages to love her, and the warning that the next time he won’t be him anymore. That’s a great concept, and it worked so well in this story. I love your Harry that’s slowly losing himself to darkness. To be honest, I like that scenario better than the plethora of happily ever afters that abound in fanfic.

A job very well done.

That was easily the best one-shot I have ever read.

I was fine until the end, then the tears came. This shows amazing insight into both Harry and Hermione's feelings for one another. It's perfect because we KNOW that Harry would do exactly that in canon if it was called for... So much of me wants a sequel to this, but it would probably take away its power. *shrug* Amazing work, nonetheless.
