Wow, nice to see you updating this. I remember reading this in FA way, way back. I think it was only up to Chapter 2 then ... I recall Harry visiting Petunia in a nursing home or something.
I've been avoiding novel-lengths esp WIPs since ... well, shortly after Book 5. But I'll be putting this on my "read when I get back in the mood to read long stories again".

Now that i've finally caught up, i am looking forward to read the rest. Which,hopefully, will be soon.
Even though it's based on books 1-5, i think these adult versions of each character are true to their characters. I also liked how Hermione solved it all, showing "she hasn't lost her touch". Still, more glimpses into her suspicions would have helped us readers to see where she was coming from in this last chapter.
As i said, i'm looking forward to read the rest. You've raised quite a few questions to be answered.

holy stinkin' cow! I comepletely forgot about this story...it's been years since I've chanced on Portkey, and I am just ever so amazed (and ever so delighted) to see an update! Mary Caroline your devotion has lit a spark in me and I feel my love for this pairing rekindling after reading. Thank you so, so much for sticking with this story after so long! You, madam, are a saint- or a goddess- or perhaps a sorely needed amalgamation of the two. In summary, I congratulate you on this wonderful story and I thank you for reminding me how much I love this coupling.

I've had to read back quite a bit to remember what was going on, but I'm glad I did. I loved this story and I still do of course.
As for the revelations this chapter... While making a lot of sense and bringing the reader's attention back to the case, they also deflated me a bit as I was expecting something, well, more substantial than Harry being proven paranoid and delusional. Perhaps the Voldemort subplot was stretched too much for a simple red herring, all that suspense and investigations and interviews and drama... Or perhaps the slow updates had me thinking about that aspect of the mystery for too long a time.
Who cares, I say. Characterizations are spot-on yet realistic and the plot is beautifully crafted anyway. More of the same, please.
My thanks for not abandoning the story, real life notwithstanding. I eagerly wait for its continuation.

Harry should always go to Hermione first, it would save him so much time and effort then her coming along later and fixing everything...love the story and can't wait for the next installment. |

I just spent most of this morning flat on my back, trying to nurse my wayward spine. Reading this on the laptop made it a whole lot better. I'd forgotten how I enjoyed your Dean, a character who deserved a lot more than he got in Rowling's published canon. Looking forward to more when you can manage it! |

I had come to believe that I would be adding this story to the dustbin of unfinished (yet wonderful) stories that I've started but had authors abandon, leaving me all manner of frustrated.
Consequently you couldn't imagine my excitment when I saw a new chapter for this; it was like Christmas morning.
No need for me to rehash what all the others have said about your writing; I agree with them all, you are an exceptional writer and have a particular talent with the H/Hr characters.
I've found the mystery here to be very engaging and thoroughly enjoyable, and I'm beyond relief that you will be continuing the story. Don't fret about the length of time between updates too much; the story is exceptionally well done and that is more than worth waiting for (though I wouldn't complain if we saw the next chapter a bit sooner).
Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing. |

The last line gives me hope.
You already know how much I love this story, and I'm so glad we're starting to get some answers... not only to the questions the characters raise, but about their behavior (til now unexplained) as well. Why was Harry going through all those contortions to prove himself right... and poisoning his new relationship with Hermione in the process? Why has he been sick for just about the entire story?
And how will he and Hermione make things right between them? Well, at least they both want to, and that's the first and biggest hurdle. The rest is negotiation.
Sadly, most readers have forgotten about this excellent tale, so I'm hoping this chapter will remind them... and maybe bring some new readers into the fold. It'd be great if we could get the next chapter by Christmas, but I know you're busy these days.
So double thank you, for remembering your readers and updating. You write so beautifully, it would be a crime not to finish this. |

Glacially slow, indeed! Not just the pace of the updates, but the pace of the plot as well. It's all well and good that Harry and Hermione both have an idea where the poison came from, how about letting the readers know as well?
Looking forward to what happens next. Hopefully we won't be another year waiting to find out!  |
Author Feedback: As a reader, I totally understand your frustration with the speed of the updates. I know I don't much enjoy reading snail-slow WIPs either. But it's been a choice between writing whenever I could and posting whenever I could, or giving up altogether. And I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I gave up, so.
I do stand by the pace of the revelations in this chapter, though. I thought learning a) that it's poison and b) exactly how the poison works was enough to credibly take in at once. I think that if too many answers came all of a sudden, things would feel cheap. I believe our characters need to *work* to unwind those final threads.
I wasn't trying to imply that Harry and Hermione have ideas they aren't sharing with the reader. I wanted it to be clear that Hermione didn't know where the poison came from, and that she felt pretty unhappy about that - if only she knew more about things going on in Harry's life, she might be able to figure it out... And while she may *think* Harry might know, or be able to guess, that doesn't mean he does.
I know it's a tall order, but I hope that when the end does come, it'll be worth at least some of the wait! |
