OK, so now I have finally gotten around to doing this.
Well, I am not going into a lot of my personal details for obvious reasons but I can tell you my likes and dislikes and a few nuggets of info that might be important...and lots of my opinions.
1. I'm now a 39 year old mother of 2 children. My teenager, who is now in college, was the reason for me picking up the HP books in the beginning but now I read them for myself.
2. In my opinion, the HP series officially ended with Book 5 so any fanfic can have a shot at finishing the HP saga properly the way it was meant to be. In my mind AU is a good thing and Book 6 doesn't even have to be taken into account at all.
3. I will from now on refer to the author of Books 6 & 7 as SHE-THAT-WON'T-BE-NAMED-AGAIN. Because whoever wrote Books 6 & 7, in my own opinion, is not the same person that wrote the other 5 books. The first 5 books were actually wonderful and I enjoyed them tremendously... well I don't want to dwell on that atrocities called Books 6 & 7, but As a reader, I was truly insulted by the sloppy, rushed, plot hole riddled, crap that had been published and labeled as the last 2 books. They were Not part of the 1st 5 books and I will never accept them as such. If the person that wrote those books is so proud of that slop, let that person keep them and give me my money back! I am glad I didn't buy book 7 now, but I got swindled out of money for 2 hard covered book 6's and I want that back! I am not happy with the product and want a refund! It was bough under false advertisement in my mind. the old bait and switch. but of course that is my opinion and that of others as well. but I have the satisfaction of not spending any more money on any other merchandise of the HP kind since book 6. No more games, books, movies, toys etc. more should do that and maybe the point will eventually get across?
4. REMUS is my favorite character of all. I am a big lycan freak. I don't call lycans 'werewolves' because in my mind I feel that the term is insulting...half man/half wolf...blah... on that, all humans have dormant genes that could make us all look wolfish...and act wolfish...and what is wrong with wolves? It's the human half I'd be more afraid of really. Humans are the cruelest creatures on the planet sometimes. SO...IF YOU WANT TO GRAB MY ATTENTION write awesome stories about Remus and lycans or as I like to call them 'woofies' and I'll be sure to read it. OH and if you happen to mention that you also hate WB for messing up the CGI 'werewolf' Remus in the HP 3 movie and prefer the sexy VanHelsing black 'werewolf' body type instead... you will have a fan for life guaranteed to read your fanfics. Also, if you write stories and make lycans the good guys I'll read you fic as long as it is completely from the beginning H/Hr and doesn't have anything like rape/sexual assult.
5. I will always ship for Harry/Hermione. The thought of Harry and Ginny together makes me cringe...it is too damn incest-like for me honestly...if going by the first 5 books...if going by complete AU...well it would not be as bad if Harry had never thought of Ginny as a little sister in the first place, and as long as he still ends up with Hermione in the end...then that would be a different thing.
6. I HATE RON WEASLEY! There is nothing that could ever change that. He just irks me like you could not imagine. And the thought of him with Hermione makes me violently ill. Whew, sorry...I have been wanting to say that for a really long time. ANOTHER WAY TO GET MY ATTENTION is to write a fanfic that shows Ron going mad with his insane jealousy of Harry/Hermione and make him join the Death Eaters to seek revenge for Harry getting the girl instead of him. That is the way I actually thought the real HP saga in Books 1-5 was going. Ron was being set up to betray Harry just like Wormtail. Ron is small minded, rude, disgusting, selfish, non-supportive, and always jealous of Harry's money, fame and the fact that Hermione spends more time with Harry, pays attention to Harry, sticks up for Harry...well again that is going by Books 1-5. So, go that way with a story then I will love to see Ron get killed off in a really nasty painful way as a traitorous Death Eater. (I have nothing against blood, guts and gore.)
7. I love a good Draco/Ginny fanfic as long as it is still completely from the begining H/Hr compliant...no trying to sneak crappy little Ron in with our Hermione in the background... that is the surest way to get me to stop reading.
8.I love a good fight scene in a story as long as it's not you know, of a violent sexual nature that forces sex on a woman against her will or a child at any time. I can't stand the thought of women and children... attacked or hurt like that. Well, I don't want to ruin my relaxation reading time with the crap that I am trying to forget I see on the news everynight.
9. The more 'goodies' crammed into a fanfic the better is my opinion. The more smuttylicious you can make it the better as long as it is H/Hr, Remus/and anyone, J/L, and D/G. Oh and to me all sex should be Concensual. Any type of forced sex including using love potions, curses, spells to force sex on someone against their will will make me stop reading at once. If I am in doubt and something seems to lean toward it I will question the author for verification that there really is NO Rape/any sexual assult/molestation before taking the story off my chapter alerts list. If the author puts it in a story w/o proper warning and I read it and am upset by it, I will usually take it off my alert lists at once.
10. I thought of something else, I don't mind fanfics that make Neville and Colin gay and dating each other...those are OK too. Just as long as Neville is back to normal.(I mean looking, not sexual orientation, and not weirded out like they made him look in HP movie 3.)
What the Hell were the guys over at WB thinking? First they messed up my Remus then they make poor Neville look all...like an evil goofy clown out of a nightmare carnival from Hell... Does anyone else think WB messed up HP 3 movie as much as I do?
11. Oh I have thought of something else important that will make me stop reading a fanfic in the fastest way. If there is any hint that Hermione had sex with Ron at all especially if he takes her virginity, I will immediately stop reading a fanfic. Even if Harry or some other guy takes her virginity then she starts to go out with Ron, I will stop reading. I can't stand the thought of Ron even looking at Hermione much less having sex with her. He is vile and most certainly not good enough to breathe the same air as Hermione and not worthy of touching her at all. I have just gotten to that point because of the disgusting thing called Book 6 which pushed my buttons and sent me over the end beyond my tolerance for crap like Ron. In my mind, only Harry should be allowed to take Hermione's virginity.
12. I have remembered another thing that will make me want to stop reading a story and it happens all too often: mentioning or putting a bachelor/stag party into a story. I can't read that kind of crap. I honestly think the whole concept is disgusting and disrespectful to women especially the bride. There is nothing cute, funny or good about one. I think they should be outlawed. And that goes for the raunchy female ones that modern days have sadly brought to life. If the bride is not sipping wine or tea with her friends, family and future in-laws playing traditional silly party games for prizes like dinner for 2 at a local restaurant or having the cost of her bridal party shoes paid for... I won't have anything to do with it. Sorry but I just can't read crap like getting drunk, naked, stupid and disrespecting the other person. I have very very strong opinions on the matter that won't be changed ever.
I just had to get that out because my evil little cross-eyed green plot bunny Zorg (yes he is named after the 5th Element character because he loves using his favorite flame thrower all the time. I told you he was evil) told me to before he lets me work on my own fanfic.
